... I've been getting alot of advice. Concerning Mr. Crush (MC). Yeah you've guessed it - my colleagues have found out 'bout MC. I thought these bunch of ppl (colleagues) were smarter than my other friends and wouldn't relate everything I do or say to MC... but nooooo... it's all about MC the whole day. How's MC? He working today? Did you talk to him?
And those are just the questions. Look at this shit - I think he likes you la Cel... He acts differently around you... see he waits for you to finish work... see he buys for you dinner when you haven't gone for your break... see this see that....arrrrrghhhhhhhh.
As it is, I'm having a tough time trying to read his actions. If this crush is mutual or otherwise. Trying to act nonchalant when he's around. Trying to guess if he likes those really feminine gals or not. Trying to be abit feminine but at the same time avoiding from losing my character. Trying not to lose my head.
But my dumb colleagues are sending me on Cloud 9 trips practically the whole day... I'm starting to lose my ability to think heh.
You may say his actions justify my colleagues' opinions. Not entirely true. I have had a guy do more for me, a friend who I thought liked me... but when confronted, saw me as his closest friend who understood him without the use of much words. The one who knew the other side to him. And now, Dit and I are still close friends, even though my friends don't know that he already knows I used to liked him hehe. Due to me not talking much about him anymore, they think that my crush for him has passed. It has... to friendship.
And now there's MC. Before, it was only MC. Now there's MC... and my colleagues. Colleagues who could turn the whole thing upside down if they don't stop talking about it.
Next time I have a simple crush on someone, remind me to shut up and be happy about it, will ya?
Sometimes, life throws you the weirdest things when you're down in the dumps, to tell you that hey, it ain't all that bad. A few days ago, I worked the closing shift with newbie Aimran and our mutual friend Nanan lepaked around the store coz it was the 1st time he knew both the people working the closing shift. Aimran who lives near me suggested we all let our parents sleep and walk back home by ourselves, all 3 of us. Haha. Yeah. We walked back home all the way from the store, at 1am in the morning. But it was a beautiful night and with us talking and laughing at the top of our voices and singing Hari Raya songs... it felt good.
And then yesterday was a high too. Right now there are some artsyfartsy kinda stalls in front of the store, and most of the stall owners have become our friends/regulars. This one Chinese guy always gets a cup of coffee from us or usually comes and chitchat. Well, yesterday he came and offered all of us red wine! Well whenever we felt sluggish, a sip of the ol' red wine was certainly welcomed! And then at about 10pm Cindy and her Soo Jin dearest came by all the way from Sunway! Cindy made sure I knew the reason she came was because she missed me hahaha. Like she said, "....there's Starbucks everywhere, so why bother coming here if it wasn't for you?...." She seems to be curious about Aimran hahaha... ohokay forgot to mention, Aimran is a CIO ('check it out') hehe.... but she also noticed my crush sitting near the bar, and both she and SJin pointed out that he either likes Starbucks very much ... or me. Hahahaha.. she didn't know that was my crush ... heh :p
Ever heard of Bateel? That very expensive brand of chocolates and dates you can find in Midvalley and Bangsar? They have a stall in front of the store.... and the past few days I've been getting free chocolates of every kind there is at 7pm sharp! Hahaha... I feel so evillish.. it sounds like I break my fast by eating chocolates.... hahahahhaha.. oh dear God you should try out their white chocolate collection! Yummyyyyyy....
Today a regular of mine came by with his friends. Name's Abdul. Now Abdul is a special kind of customer. Why? We call him David Blaine. Yeah. You bet. He can show you magic tricks like none you've seen before. Ok not magic tricks.. but rather illusions. To heck with all those stupid I-can-find-your-card tricks. He bites coins till they bend like chocolate in his fingers, he pulls a lighted up ciggie right through his blady shirt without a hint of burned cotton... and the best would be him making an outline of his hand faced-up on a piece of paper, and then asking you to take a ciggie and burn any finger on the paper... while in front of your very eyes, his real corresponding finger turns red due to heat. Drop a few drops of water on the burnt part (paper) and his finger recovers. No I'm not shitting you. Hehe.
But the thing is, he rarely does it when the store is full with customers. And usually it's only when any one of us go outside to clean a table near where he sits does he perform an illusion, and he knows I love to see them. So today the store was full, and I was stuck behind the bar making drinks. Manager went outside to clean tables... and I saw her talking to him. Next thing I know, he's following her inside and she hands him an apron. No, you silly he's not gonna work! He told me to help him wrap it around his right arm and I gleefully did it, jumping and all like a silly quack when I realised an illusion was gonna happen. And then right there, in a store brimming with customers, by the side of the bar, he did it. He bent down, covered arm straight up from floor to neck, and twisted his arm TWO WHOLE ROUNDS counter clockwise! He stood up amidst gasps from other customers and asked me if it was a nice trick. Hell yeah! And then my manager goes and thanks him for making me smile..... what?? .... hahaha... it seems I came to work with a very 'jaded' expression due to 2 weeks of doing the closing shift. And so my manager asked for his help to make me all smiling and chatty again. Geez. I feel so mushed up LOL. Not to mention Abdul is a CIO too. Hehe.
Today closing was good. Worked with my favourite manager and Aimran. Nanan lepaked again until we finished. He managed to get free chicken from Strudels so after cleaning up the store, all of us sat outside by the tarmac and had piping hot chicken wings with mushroom sauce, couple of vanilla ice blendeds and laughs. And some white chocolate cheesecake.
If this is the ying, I hope the yang doesn't come too soon. Or maybe the yang was 2 weeks of closing shifts?
Lows...
Actor Jonathan Brandis, aged 27... is dead. Possible suicide. The weird irony of it all is that I just watched the movie 'IT' upon reaching home about 2 hours ago before coming online to find news of his death all over MSN. Sucks la.
2 whole weeks of doing the closing shift is causing havoc to my whole system. When usually, I come back home at about 12.30ish a.m. and sleep till about 10-11am...
.....now its just home by 1am, play computer games/watch tv/online/yak on the phone till about 4-5am, sleep like a piggy till 2pm, wake up, get ready and go to work at 4-5pm.
argh!
I don't know what's up with Sarah (schedule manager). Two whole weeks ain't funny. Rules state that it should be 2-3 days of each shift i.e. opening/middle/closing in a week. SIGH. And I just found out that Muha will be working the closing shift during Raya, so that means I'm gonna do anything but the closing shift coz B. Bee (store manager) has made a rule stating that me and Muha cannot work the closing shift together... coz then there'll be no 'strong' people on the floor during the day. Eleven months of working in the store but I've never worked with Muha LOL. And you know what's her request to B. Bee? She wants to work the closing shift with me for both Raya days.
I think my soul just jumped out of my body and flew out the window.
Oh. Have I something new to tell you guys. I'm a regular reader of Za's blog and recently she laughed upon finding out that bra in malay is 'Coli'. In Indo, bra is 'Beha'. Her other friends all laughed like hell too so I decided to ask what the fuss was all about.
Went to Planet Hollywood again. This time it was planned, unlike the previous times heh. This time I’m not the one working at 7am tomorrow hehe. Working the closing shift so for once I can sleep like a baby after all that music, drinks and smokes. Muha is the victim tomorrow hehehe. This time it was Ladies Night, so I didn’t have to dig deep into my pockets for money.
This time I just wiggled my ass near our table coz the dance floor didn’t look happening enough. This time Gerry pulled me a couple of times for a bit of ass-wiggling when he thought I had warmed my seat long enough. Goodness, Gerry is the type of guy you wouldn’t mind bringing to a party. Man could he dance! And dance and dance and dance…
And this time, towards the end, the 2 guys seated in front of us joined our table. One of them was a CIO (‘check it out’, Starbucks language for good looking people) and wonders of all wonders, they thought I looked familiar and asked if I lived anywhere near Ampang (ack!). CIO lives in Kosas, which is sooooo near to where I am. And when they found out us gals at the table worked in Starbucks, CIO’s friend promptly described one of my managers in the store(another ack!). CIO asked for my number but… hell no.. I don’t give out my number just like that. What do you think I am??
And this time, right at the end of our outing there, Gloria Estefan’s Tres Deseos came over the speakers. What else….the latin in me came out and I danced like nobody’s business to the song, singing the lyrics and all hahaha. The table was in shocked at first to see me coz I was a bit quiet prior to that moment, but hey, it didn’t stop them from trying to latin-dance with me around our table hehehe…
I think... I'm having a little, itsy bitsy woozie.... crush.
I thought I was too old for this shit!
But crushes are nice no? Small, simple, plain ones. Just to make your heart skip a beat once in a while during the course of a stressful day. Just to make you look forward to get dressed and go to work. Just to make your head light with giddiness. And madness.
In my last entry I said that a guy had booked 10 tickets for the charity premiere of the Lord Of The Rings right? But it was just 'reserved'... haven't confirmed.
That was the previous entry. Which is like history now.
Because today is another new day. Another day to sell tickets.
And I sold 40 tickets on the spot to a very nice gentleman.
Now all that's left... are the first 5 rows from the front. But don't worry.. I think the other stores are still having most of the seats available. Just don't come to my store if you wanna sit far away from the screen.
And today was so goddamn busy that I couldn't walk out of the cashier area after 8pm. I was just stuck there as customers came, came... and just came. Ijat, who brought a few of his friends to have a cup of coffee had to sit in O'Briens next door although they ordered drinks from us hehe. And then E, another friend of mine from Kyros Kebab upstairs, sat at the same table where my manager was doing her paperwork... she didn't sit much but her stuff were there so I just told him to sit heh.
I've finally gotten my ticket! Yeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaa...
Gonna be tagging along with my regular customer Jennifer while Muha who didn't get a ticket is gonna go with the others from the store to the charity premiere. Muha is pissed becoz Sarah 'forgot' to book our tics and hence, we can't watch it together.
Edwin will be in the front while Ijat and Nanan, the guys from Power Station are gonna be in the next cinema hall. They bought their tics from Times Square so they got a different hall. No matter coz I bet we are gonna be hanging out together during the intervals... like the everyday routine lepaking sessions we've been having in Great Eastern the past few weeks. I bet that mamak stall at the back of KLCC is gonna be packed.
Another regular customer, Casey, is gonna be with his group of 12 friends in front of us too hehe. I don't know if the other tics were taken by any of my regular customers... but it definitely won't be 'lonely' in the cinema hall hehe.
Alot of people came by today asking for the marathon tickets. Sorry people.. but the tics have been sold out for the past 2 days already. It's a wonder, seeing how at first the ticket sales were so slow and then whoooooooooiiishhhh... no more. The charity premiere tics were put on sale today and we've already sold 6 to those who missed out on the marathon. You interested? Go get your butts to the nearest Starbucks then! Six is only the confirmed figure... unofficially it's higher than that coz well, a regular of mine booked 10 (!) before I left the store! He even wanted to book 6 tics for the Philips Jazz Festival in Mont Kiara on Dec. 6 but we are not selling those.
Speaking of the Festival, Jennifer wants me to tag along with her to it too. Ijat's already been talking about it for quite some time... and I have a funny feeling Nanan is gonna go though it's not his idea of 'music'. Gosh. I'm gonna see the same people everywhere. Great Eastern suddenly feels so small when you get to know more people working there.
/edited latest news...
It seems that in the US, 30 pairs of the LOTR marathon tickets have been put up for sale on eBay. Initial price at USD25-USD50, it is now being auctioned for USD200-USD500! Highest bidder: USD1000!
Mine: RM43.
And my phone has been ringing off the hook with people and strangers asking if I can get for them the tics. Yea, think Starbucks, think Celeste huh? I've advised them to head for Starbucks Mont Kiara, Pyramid, Carrefour, Taipan etc to get the tickets for the show in Sunway Pyramid becoz it's not sold out YET. Good luck!
Last week, my parents decided that we should all take leave from work/ KL life and head down to Malacca for All Souls’ Day (2nd November). I tried my very best to stay healthy so that I could enjoy everything that I will soon come to devour.
And enjoyed Celeste did. Hoooo boyyyyyyy you should see the stuff I ate. It was like I did a REALLY good deed to be repaid like this hehehe.
The whole trip went along like this:
We left KL after lunch at about 2pm. Reached Uncle Raymond’s house in Ayer Keroh to go see his new granddaughter, Yasmin, who is the firstborn of my dear cousin, Nana. Min is soooo chubby… and cute (!). Even though these people were fasting, they still forced us to eat LOL. Not fair. They said it was just those small kuchinek nasi lemaks in banana leaves…. But noooo what we got were huge nasi lemaks that came in those white containers.
When we finally reached the Settlement, it was already 6.30pm. A few relatives were sitting in the porch yakking or standing outside by the roadside talking with fellow Settlement residents who passed by. The youngest, Isaac, was soooo tembam that I called him tembam the whole time I was there hahaha. And so all of us parked our bums in the porch and chatted… that is kinda like the usual thing to do in the Settlement.
When talk of dinner arose, it was obvious that the family knew what I wanted to eat HEHE : satay celup at the Moon Luck shop nearby. Oh man I haven’t eaten this shit in soooo long I can’t remember when was the last. When all the food was put out on the table and everybody started grabbing what they fancied and dump it into the boiling water in the middle of the table, I just sat there….dungufied. I didn’t know which to eat first! In the end I broke my record. It used to be 13 sticks. Now it has gone up to 16. SIGH.
Back home, a few other relatives came from all over Malacca. They wanted to have supper!! I isolated myself in one of the bedrooms to study a bit for my upcoming exam this Thursday. Wasn’t really successful since Si Tembam kept popping in and out of the room.
Woke up early next morning. All Souls’ Day. Kitchen was hectic as usual, what with relatives being everywhere and children just darting here and there, popping their lungs with shrieks of laughter. At last, at 12pm, we managed to bundle everybody into their respective cars and headed to the first cemetery – Bukit Serindit.
There, we visited the graves of my maternal grandpa – James Shepherdson, his mother – Lousia Shepherdson, the parents of my maternal grandma – Elias and Paternellia de Costa and last but not least, the eldest child of my generation – Andersen Joe Penny. Andy was a beautiful baby and would have been a handsome man. We always feel sombre standing at his grave in the children’s section of the cemetery, where tiny graves fill the field under the swaying trees with their branches outstretched. Mum said Andy used to crawl on his bum from the main door of the house all the way till the kitchen (which is a really long way). That kinda livened up things.
Next stop was Aunty Bertha’s house in Pokok Mangga for lunch. Mmmmmmm….. Curry Debel, Beef Umbilek, Curry Seku, fish, vege and a host of other dishes. And to top it all off……… DURIAN…….. My god even though everybody mentioned that the weather was too hot for durians everytime I spoke of my yearning to eat it all the way from KL and in the Settlement, they still buckled at the sight of it. We ate, and ate, and ate. Now I don’t have to eat durians for a year hehe.
And then we were on our way to Jelutong, the newest place to be laid to rest in Malacca since Bukit Serindit is full. Here was the one maternal grandparent that I actually knew – Dorothy Shepherdson. Standing at her grave, I took a look around and realized I recognized the names engraved on the graves nearby…mostly residents of the Settlement. They were all a gang in the Settlement, along with my grandma.
After saying our goodbyes, my family drove on to Seremban for the final stop. The cemetery was located near the Lake Gardens, and was filled with people. My paternal grandparents were laid to rest side by side as my granny, Agatha Sibert, took the initiative to buy the lot next to her husband, Ferdinand, when he passed away. Granny was the one that I was closest to, she brought me everywhere. In the days following her death, my relatives were worried for me since my UPSR was near. It was also that my family experienced the most ‘spiritual incidents’ during the 7 days period.
One hour later, I was back in KL. Good ol' Petronas Twin Towers loomed over the horizon when I opened my eyes.
